2017 was an important year for us at The National Archives. With the support of The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport ministers, we launched our strategic vision for the archives sector. The ambition of Archives Unlocked is to release the full potential of archives. Archives should inspire trust, enrich our lives, and be open to all. In order to do this, we are focusing on key areas of opportunity and challenge for the sector: increasing digital capacity, building resilience and demonstrating impact. Our case studies show how much archives are doing already to realise these goals.
People may think archives are about the past but these stories show that archives are about the future. We want to show the innovative ways archives work to collect, and to make their collections accessible – for now and for the future.
